Beyond
the Alhambra
The Alhambra of Granada is deservedly the most-visited monument
in Europe, but the appeal of this southern Spanish city goes beyond
its illustrious Moorish and Christian history. Many European cities
have distinguished architectural monuments, but Granada adds to
that the "ambiente" factor. The Granadinos know how to
live!
The
different areas of the city, from the hillside Albaicin quarter
opposite the Alhambra to the Campo del Principe, the Calderería
and the modern commercial center, each has its own distinctive flavor
where jazmine-perfumed summer nights usually end up in coffee shops
for an early breakfast. And let's not forget the fringes of the
city: the Cartuja Monastery, the Sacromonte Gypsy caves, the Science
Park, the villages of La Vega. All of these attractions are nicely
spiced with the Granadino's determined live-it-now attitude and
cordial hospitality.
